Recently I had to go to the German Consulate at 9 boat club road, Chennai. This address was not enough to reach there from Chennai Central. I searched al lot over the net to find out where is 9 boat club road and not able to find it. But I could find boat club road in google map and the German consulate.
Now how to reach the Consulate from Chennai Central. You can either use Taxi, Auto, Bus or Local Train. The easiest and cheapest method is to use the local train service. From Chennai Central walk to Park Town Station ( it is opposite to Central, you can ask any body, don’t ask for Park Station, which goes to another direction ).
Take ticket for Mandaveli station which is 6th station from Park Town (Chintadripet, Chepauk, Thiruvallikeni, Light House, Thirumaylai then Mandaveli) and got to platform no.2. The charge is Rs.5/- only (on 12/2008).
From Mandaveli station you can either walk or take an auto to reach the consulate. If you are walking then from the station take right turn to reach the main road, from there take right again and walk straight and you have to cross two junctions with signals. After the second signal you will see a petrol pump on the left side and just before the pump take left and walk straight for about 100 mtrs and on the left side you can see the German Consulate.
The walking distance is nearly 2KM. If you don’t want to walk then you can take an auto and tell them to drop you near the boat club road petrol pump and you have to pay Max.Rs25/-. Confirm the rate before travelling. They may ask for Rs.50/-. I travelled for Rs.25/-.
The same can be applied for return also. Either walk/auto to Mandaveli station ( it is possible to get a lift on two wheeler also). Take ticket to Park Town ( Rs.5/-).
From Morning 7.am to 11.am there are trains ( up & down ) in every 10 minutes and after 11.am it is in every 20 minutes.
Thank you very much for the information. It is very useful 🙂
hi guy..its really helpful…thank u a lot
Hi Mr. Krishna
Your blog was helping so much that I didn’t even ask to any body and I reached direct.
Few points I wud like to add to your post –
1: In my commuting – I took Kaveri express for both too n fro. 6221 and 6222 are the train numbers. I took from KR Puram at around 12:15 AM mid night n reached 7:30 am. Then my work in Counslate was over till 11 am. I took same route as you told and it was fun 🙂
2: Then after 11 am I took same local train from madavelli and as I had whole day in hand so got down in “light House” stop just after 3 stations.
3: there i went to nearby beach, it was fun. You must take some light cloths if u wanna take bath in sea.
4: Then I went to city-center that is again a waking distance from beach, you can ask any body. there I watch “karate Kid” in INOX.
5: Spent whole day like that. and again back to Central station where my train 6222 wan on 21:30. So reached KRPuram-Bangalore next day – 3:30am in morning.
I hope this info will help others.

Hi. As soon as you come out of central railway station, take Sub-way to cross the road(the road other side of station). From there take bus 5C and get down at Adyar-Gate stop. Walk backwards on the straight road towards Bharath Petrol pump and take right adjacent to it.
